| Grandma Mabels Prize-Winning Apple Pie |
|
This pie has won the Blue Ribbon at the Black Hawk County Fair
SEVEN times!! Grandma says the secret is Granny Smith apples and a
pinch of nutmeg.
Ingredients:
Mix sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg. Toss with apple slices. Pour into pastry-lined pie plate. Dot with butter. Cover with top crust, seal and flute edges. Cut slits in top. Bake at 425 degrees for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and bubbly. Let cool on a wire rack. Serve with vanilla ice cream from the Dairy Barn!! |
| Strawberry Freezer Preserves |
|
We sell these at the roadside stand for $4 a jar and they sell out
EVERY weekend!! People drive from Waterloo just to get them.
Ingredients:
Combine strawberries and sugar, let stand 10 minutes stirring occasionally. Combine pectin and water in a saucepan, bring to a boil, boil 1 minute. Pour over fruit mixture and stir 3 minutes. Ladle into clean mason jars leaving 1/2 inch headspace. Let stand at room temperature 24 hours. Store in freezer up to 1 year or fridge up to 3 weeks. Grandma says NEVER use frozen berries - fresh only!! |
| Sweet Corn Casserole |
|
This is what Mom brings to every church potluck and it is ALWAYS
the first dish to be empty!! Uses our own sweet corn of course.
Ingredients:
Mix all ingredients except cheese. Pour into a greased 9x13 baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Sprinkle cheese on top and bake 15 more minutes until set and golden. Let stand 5 minutes before serving. Tyler eats like three helpings every time LOL. |
